I use these once a week and I can’t even tell you how glowy they leave my skin. I don’t get facials and people always ask if I got one after I use. I get sent so many beauty products to try, that I rarely buy any myself. They’re one of the few beauty products I’ve used for years and will restock on as soon as I’m low.

This dress is giving Zimmermann vibes for a lot less. Honestly, I used to only shop here for my kids but their women’s clothing has been so good recently.

With four little kids who have tons of energy, I basically live at the pool during the summer. I have been wearing these as coverups for years — they are technically nightgowns — but they’re lightweight, perfect for throwing over swimsuits and look like dresses, so you can bop around town or the snack bar afterwards. I also ordered this set for our upcoming trip.

These sandals are like works of art. I also love the flat version.

I love to wear my button-up shirts with the collar popped up, but I hate when I’m constantly adjusting it. This one holds it shape, is so chic, and lives up to the hype. After seeing it on so many of the stylish women who influence me, I finally bit the bullet and ordered and it is, indeed, perfect.

If you want a swimsuit that makes you feel good but not like a grandma, I just got this suit after seeing it on a friend last summer and it’s the perfect amount of coverage for chasing kids and not getting side eye at the country club but is still flattering and I don’t want to say sexy but like a hot mama.

This tassle necklace is at the top of my wish list. Just got these earrings for Mother’s day and they’re so pretty for any dress-up occasions. I also saw my friend Alexandra wearing them with sweats and I am going to say they’re perfect dressed down too.

We finally are adding the finishing touches to some of the bedrooms in our house, and I’ve been eyeing this the guest room for extra storage. It looks antique and I really love this company. They have lots of great pieces.

Another mom was wearing this at James’ lacrosse game, and I immediately ordered. Perfect way to be casual and comfortable but look put-together.

I realize they’re not for everyone and a bit trendy at le moment, but I can’t stop thinking about these shoes. They’ll add such a fun and unexpected touch to spring and summer dresses and shorts. You have to tell me what you think.

I needed a bra to work with spring dress necklines that were a bit deeper so I don’t have to go strapless. This one from Sydney Sweeney’s company works. It also happens to be the prettiest bra I’ve owned since I was single.

Her dresses are a splurge but they are so beautiful and special and different from everything else you see out there. I love this one for spring and summer.

So in honor Mother’s Day, I thought I’d share the hard earned lessons I’ve learned about raising kids that honestly, I wish I had read before having kids.

Everything really is just a phase. This is something that you can’t truly grasp without perspective. But as you get further into parenthood or as you have more kids, you start to realize that both the good and the bad doesn’t last forever, whether it’s their love of Paw Patrol, their tantrums, their refusal to eat anything but buttered noodles, or their sleep strikes. It doesn’t make the tough stuff any easier, but reminding myself that it’s just a phase — they’ll sleep one day, they’ll eat vegetables again, they’ll stop screaming when everything doesn’t go their way — has helped me keep perspective when we’re really in it.

Mom guilt doesn’t go away. I had the demanding corporate job five days a week in the office with the full time nanny. I had the work from home corporate job and the hybrid work from home/office job. And now I have the full time mom and work for myself during naps and school set-up. And you know what? The mom guilt never went away. I thought when I left my corporate job and could make my own hours and be there for every pick-up and class party, it would finally be gone. Nope. I still feel guilty — I feel guilty if I’m on my phone with the kids, if I am cranky from staying up late to finish work after they go to bed, if I don’t volunteer to supervise the field trip or run the bake sale, if I miss a game so the baby can nap. I feel guilty that I’m not making every meal from scratch or that they don’t eat enough vegetables. I constantly worry I’m not there enough, I don’t give them enough attention, etc, etc. Mom guilt is ever-present. I used to try everything I could to get rid of it, but I’m realizing, it’s just one of those things we probably have to learn to live with. It means we’re amazing moms who love our kiddos and want to be the very best moms. We need to remind ourselves that just by showing up, we’re enough, we’re good moms. But knowing that no matter what I do, I’ll always feel guilty about something has helped give me permission to not put so much pressure on myself to try to do it all.

It’s not just your kids. I often feel like my kids are the only ones who are misbehaving or being extremely loud or fighting with each other — and that it reflects some flaw in my parenting. But the reality is, it’s not just them. We just don’t necessarily see it because no one is paying that much attention to someone else’s kids because we’re all so busy worrying about our own. And that’s probably one of the biggest gifts social media has given us — memes from other moms to remind us, it’s not just our kids, we’re all struggling with so many of the same things.

Parenting is hard — for everyone. Some people make it look super easy, especially on social media or maybe during the small portions of the day that you see them. But I promise you, everyone struggles with different aspects of parenting. It may be hard at different points for different people — some of us are better at the newborn stage, some the toddlers or the teenagers — but it’s the hardest job in the world and we all struggle at different times. As Dr. Becky said — and I found to be one of the most validating things I’ve heard as a parent — it feels hard because it is hard.

Some babies just don’t sleep. Speaking of validating parenting truisms, I actually found this one so incredibly liberating. We struggled so hard to get James to sleep. We tried everything, and it was in the heyday of sleep training and people judging you if your baby wasn’t sleeping 11 hours by 11 weeks. Even the doctors were so judge-y. But at one of James’ pediatrician appointments, we saw a different pediatrician and she said something that took a hundred pound weight off my shoulders, so I’m sharing it with you now in case you’re dealing with a baby who won’t sleep: some babies just don’t sleep. And you know what? James didn’t; not for a year. And it was insanely exhausting, especially as I went back to work full time. But we got through it, and now he’s my best sleeper. See? Everything really is a phase.

Group parenting makes raising kids so much more fun. Since we’ve moved, I’ve found myself really missing the community we had in our old town. It is a small town where my husband grew up. You walk everywhere and bump into friends the moment you step outside. It was a special community where the kids and parents were all friends and we were constantly doing things together, whether it was heading to the playground after grabbing bagels or ordering dinner at the pool and letting the kids run around while the adults hung out. It made weekends so much more fun and less of a grind. And it didn’t take tons of effort — because of the size, you could just run out to get bagels and end up with a playdate or dinner plans. It made me realize how much more fun it is to do it all with friends. From vacations to weekend afternoons and school breaks, when you do it with friends with kids the same ages, it doesn’t feel like such an intense (and lonely) grind.

The best bonding and memories happen on vacations. People often comment how impressed (or how crazy I am) to constantly travel with my four young kids. They’re not wrong and I don’t mind the comments. It’s absolute insanity. BUT it’s also always worth it. The flights, road trips and traveling in general is never not hard. But I will gladly sacrifice those hours for what time away together does for our family. A change of scenery and exploring someplace new or returning to someplace with traditions we’ve built and love brings us closer as a family. I watch the kids bond more and grow closer. It gives Andrew and I the gift of being away from our to-dos and the ever present reminders of the laundry, work calls, emails, yard work, etc. that needs to get done, so we can focus on our family. And when I look back, those are among my favorite memories, well worth every penny and nightmare travel day. The kids are now coming away with their own special memories from our trips, and it feels like such a gift to be able to give them.

They are who they are when they get here. Yes, we shape our children in many ways, and we can help instill confidence and values etc.. But so much of who they are is already set in stone when they get here. I have the perspective of four kids, each wildly different, to help me see it’s not all my parenting. And that takes a lot of the pressure off.

The best way to reduce tantrums is connecting with your kids — and the only way out is through. With James, I always tried to avoid or stop his tantrums. It never really worked that well. I read every book about tantrums, but what really helped was reminding myself when we were in it that the only way out is through. Sometimes kids just need to get out the energy and emotions, and rather than trying to stop it, we just need to let them get it out. We’ve all been there when we just need to go into a room and scream or have a big cry. Once they’re having a tantrum, the emotional regulation is gone — it’s not the time to try to reason and distraction rarely works and when it does, the tantrum ends up coming later. It’s better to just figure out how to get yourself through it, especially if you find tantrums triggering. For me, it’s breathing and just reminding myself they need to get it out and the only way out is through. But if you want to lower the frequency of tantrums, try spending time connecting. I find when my kids feel like they were really seen and connected to me, the tantrums really reduce in frequency. Which leads me to my next lesson…

At the end of the day, your love and attention is all they want. If you miss the camp sign up. If you forget the snack or costume. If you can’t be there for dinner every night or to pick them up each day. If you aren’t the Pinterest mom or the class mom or the super crafty mom. It’s OK! As long as they feel loved, that is all that really matters. If you can give them a portion of your undivided attention every day, whether that’s reading books before bed, sitting down together for breakfast, or while driving them to sports, that’s enough to fill their cup. Just a little connection and a lot of love — that’s really what they need.

Oh, and you’re doing amazing mama. You ARE. Even if it doesn’t feel like it. Even if you worry you’re not cut out for this or you’re a terrible mom or you’re always overwhelmed or you think you’re yelling too much or you’re not doing enough. Guess what? I think that every day too. I promise, you’re an amazing mom and your kids are so lucky to have you. You are irreplaceable and the most special person in the universe to your babies.

Scalloped Entrance Rug. This looks exactly like the S&L version I own and for 1/6 the price. Considering how beat up these rugs get, it feels like a no-brainer. We used the larger version as a dining room rug, and it looked so pretty and held up well with kids and a dog and lots of crumbs.

Wicker Toilet Paper Holder. This is such a pretty, elevated way to store extra toilet paper.

Straw Bag. I own this under $50 straw bag and I can’t say enough good things about it. Everyone thinks it costs 3x’s the price, it’s held up for endless beach and pool trips and vacations and fits so much but looks chic.

And for a slightly smaller size, this straw bag is giving Loewe vibes. I’m at a stage of parenthood where my bags get beat up. I love that I can carry a chic straw bag and dump in the snacks and crayons and not worry if it gets beat up because I didn’t spend a fortune on it. But so far, I’ve been so impressed with the Amazon straw bags I’ve tried.

Bamboo Flatware. I get asked about this flatware every time you guys see it in a pic or video. It’s held up so well and I just throw it in the dishwasher after every use and looks much more expensive.

If you love Agua Bendita, Farm Rio, Alemais, etc., you’ll love this under $32 skirt. It’s giving all three and it looks cute with a tee or a swimsuit. I love getting a few pieces like this to take on vacations or excursions with my kids where I know it’s going to get dirty. Looks elevated but I won’t cry if it ends up with ketchup or mud on it.

We wanted a fourth stool but I didn’t want to spend $800 on another stool that would fall apart in less than a year, so I got this lookalike and you can barely tell the difference and it has held up with my four little kids far better than the pricier ones.

Monday

What I Did

After a busy and exhausting weekend, Monday was a major catch-up day for me for work and life. I woke up early to get in some work before getting the kids ready for school. It was pretty cold, but the sun was out, so after I dropped Brooks off at school, I put Grace in the stroller and took her for a run. We grabbed a coffee at my favorite french coffee shop, Saison & Sucre and then headed home. I put her down for a nap and cranked out as much work as I could before I had to get her up and pick up Brooks from preschool at 12pm. It’s crazy how fast that time goes, but I’m glad I made time for an outdoor run. The fresh air is life-giving. I made lunch for Brooks and Grace and had my hyper fixation lunch — Greek yogurt, frozen berries (idk why but the frozen berries taste better), my fave protein powder, and a sprinkle of Purely Elizabeth cookie granola (the peanut butter and oatmeal raisin flavors are my fave). The kids had butternut squash mac and cheese with broccoli, and I had to have a few bites as well. After cleaning up lunch and putting both down for their naps, I cleaned myself up and shot some content and rushed to post a few things to my LTK, Shopmy and Instagram before it was time to pickup the big kids at the bus at 3:15pm. It was the first time we didn’t have any after school activities, so the kids played with our neighbors while I repacked their backpacks and tidied up and started to prep dinner. I made this sausage gnocchi from here and it’s so easy and yummy. James had a hockey practice we had forgotten about, so I cleaned up dinner and bathed the three littles and put them to bed while Andrew took James to his hockey. I love our age spread in so many ways, but the hardest part is having a nine year old who goes to bed later, as I like to get ready for bed and finish up work right after all the littles go down, but I have one more who is hungry after a late practice and then needs to be directed to finish homework, shower, and get ready for bed. I’ve been taking these at night to help me quite my mind and all the to-dos and get better sleep — like a glass of wine but without the middle of night wakeup and next day fog.

What I Wore

Before the bus pickup, I changed into my go-to striped sweater and jeans for the afternoon.

Tuesday

What I Did

I got up early to crank out edits, prep content and answer emails because I knew I wouldn’t have much time to work as it was Brooks’ fourth birthday. I rushed to set up his special birthday breakfast and lay out his gifts while full-on sobbing. For some reason, this birthday really hit me. He’s been my little boy/toddler for so long and as exhausting as it can be, he’s just so delicious and fun and I am not ready for him to grow into a little boy. Time is a thief! The big kids woke Brooks up and they all ran downstairs to open his presents and see his birthday balloons. This power washer, car wash and this outdoor toy were all big hits. I dropped the big kids at the bus and then took Brooks to school. It was so sunny again, I went for a run with Grace in the stroller. We then rushed home so I could put Grace down for a nap and change quickly to head back to Brooks’ school to read to his class for his birthday. It was so cute and I read this book, which was a huge hit and one of our family faves. I took Brooks to his swim lesson and then we met Grace and Andrew for lunch at the diner in town. Brooks got mickey mouse pancakes and ice cream and felt so special and loved. He rarely gets to go out solo with both of us, because well, third child. I put the littles down for their naps and had about 20 minutes to squeeze in some work and get the house organized before picking up the big kids from the bus and starting the afternoon shift — pop stars for Charlotte and then dropping James off at his hockey tryouts. We grabbed a casual birthday dinner for Brooks while James was at his try out. I’m glad we had Brooks’ birthday to distract us because I was a nervous wreck. I honestly don’t understand why we are having kids try out for sports so young these days. I wish it was more of a focus on having fun and not who is on what team and who is the best. We’re trying to balance the fact that this is the competitive world we live in and our belief in just focusing on sports as a way to build work ethic, teamwork, and sportsmanship while having fun and getting energy out. I know a lot of us are grappling with this. In any event, tryouts are my least favorite part of parenting and I am glad to have day one over. We picked up James and grabbed some birthday ice cream before heading home for quick baths and bed.

What I Wore

I honestly didn’t feel great — a combo of staying up late to finish work and wrapping presents and my period coming. I was sent these elastic waist pants forever ago and can’t believe this is the first time I wore them. When you want to wear pajamas but have to look put-together, these are your best friend. I added this sweater that I’ve been living in lately, a perfect layering piece.

Wednesday

What I Did

I was dragging from all the birthday shenanigans, but I rallied to get up and get a workout in before the kids got up. I love Tracy Anderson videos and some light weight lifting on mornings when I only have a little bit of time to squeeze in some movement. After drop off, I put Grace down and shot some sponsored content. I got Grace up, picked up Brooks and took him to OT before we headed home for lunch. I made the kids avocado toast and fruit and I had my usual while picking at the kids’ leftovers. I edited videos and plotted out upcoming content while the littles napped and then a contractor came over to discuss some house projects we want to do. I’ve been dragging on any big renovations but I’m excited for some things we’re finally going to check off the house list. Of course, I scrolled Zillow on the way to the bus, contemplating whether we should just move rather than do more work to the house, because you know, every three years I need to move. Then it was off to ballet and night two of hockey try-outs. I made Andrew take James while I took one of these and tried to distract myself with getting the littles to sleep and working while watching Memory of a Killer - have you guys watched? I can’t tell how I feel about it, but we both are pretty into it, so I think it’s a win?

It was actually nice out, so I wore this fun new spring jacket y’all have been loving with these under $100 white jeans and my go-to everyday sweater and an old pair of J.Crew flats that are sold out, but these are almost the same.

Thursday

What I Did

I had to drop off the Suburban to get serviced in town. Brooks’ school isn’t far from there so I walked him to school and then Grace and I went for our run and then grabbed a coffee before heading home to put her down for her nap and squeeze in a work call and some computer work. I picked up Brooks and fed him and Grace smoothies and “healthy” muffins before Brooks’ skating lesson. Afterward, I rushed home to get them down for their afternoon naps and shoot some content quickly. I ran to get the kids from the bus just in the nick of time. The kids didn’t have anything right after school so they played outside while I finished some more work. In a perfect world, I’d be done with work by the time they got home from school but right now, I don’t have any help in the mornings, so my work hours are fragmented and work often bleeds into kid time and vice versa. I don’t love it, but that’s the reality of running my own business while raising little kids, and while I often get frustrated to have to constantly toggle between the two, I love the freedom to be with my kids more and to no longer be commuting to a corporate job, so it’s a tradeoff I’m willing to make. James had his last hockey tryout, but luckily, Andrew was working from home and able to drop him off before we picked up the car. I made meatballs and pasta for dinner, which is always a hit. Unfortunately, the broccoli and carrots were not, but I tried? But please send me any recipes you have for getting your kids to eat veggies! I stayed up to late prepping content and catching up on emails with my manager and brands after the kids went down, but it was Friday eve so I figured I’d make up for it over the weekend (spoiler alert: that never happened).

I almost stayed in it all day, but last minute, I changed back into these elastic waist pants and added this sweater with it to go to hockey and I’m glad I did. I felt more put-together despite being so exhausted tgat I caved and had a second coffee in the afternoon.

What I Did

I don’t think I’ve ever been happier for a Friday to arrive. Brooks doesn’t have school on Fridays, so our mornings feel a bit less rushed. I got up early though to workout. Our morning sitter moved, so I knew I wouldn’t have time to workout if I didn’t squeeze it in before the kids were up. I made pancakes for breakfast with blueberries and chocolate chips and then Andrew was working from home so he walked the big kids to the bus while I cleaned up and got Brooks ready for hockey. We stopped for coffee and a muffin and then went to his hockey class only to find out the previous week had been the last class. We pivoted and went to Kohl’s to drop some Amazon returns, which was fortuitous because they’re having a big sale and I stocked up on sports clothes for James. If your kids are in their Adidas, Nike, Under Armour era, the sale is really good. We grabbed smoothies before taking Brooks to a haircut. I took him to this bougie spot in town where all the men go, and kid is spoiled for life. We went to OT, picked up my fave salad at Greens on the Go, and then we went home for naps and a chill afternoon before I got to skip bedtime and go to dinner with my mom friends. Even though I was exhausted we shut down the restaurant chatting. Aren’t those the best nights?

But you know what’s funny? This year on my birthday, I was probably the happiest I’ve ever been. I just felt so grateful for all that I have — my four beautiful babies who were so excited to give me a balloon and donuts when I woke up, a husband who has been with me since my 20s and tried to make my weekend special, a sweet home that we get to make so many memories inside of, a best friend of over 30 years to celebrate with, friends who texted, called and made plans to celebrate, and a new career that I enjoy and control (for the most part). I know that so many of the things I only dreamed about at one point have come true. And that I really am in such a sweet spot in life.

This birthday was decidedly low key and I didn’t necessarily accomplish any significant feet this year, and yet, it’s one that I know I’ll always cherish. I love the ages of my kids. I love getting to spend so much time with them. I love that we’re still building a home and life and yet have built so much. In any event, I’m not one of those people who usually feels content — I’m always striving for more, feeling like I need to accomplish and do more. And yet, this year, on my birthday I felt really content.

I still have so much to live and learn, but I thought I’d share some reflections on entering my early 40s.

It always works out. I love that I have enough wisdom and experience now to believe that while things won’t always be easy, they will work out. I feel less panicked about the future. I feel less pressure to force things to go the way I want them to.

You better enjoy the ride. I feel more compelled to enjoy the moment. I’ve never been good about appreciating what I have and enjoying the moment. As a Type A overachiever, I’ve always been focused on what’s next and doing more and better. But as I’ve gotten older, especially this past year, I’ve really come to appreciate how fleeting time is and especially this time with my kids. I’m watching them grow up so fast, and I’m giving myself more grace to just enjoy life with them, to not kill myself to achieve the next career or personal milestone, to not focus so much on building our life that I don’t have a chance to savor it. I stay up cuddling with the kids when I used to rush to get back to my laptop to do work. I say yes to more things I’ll enjoy just for the sake of enjoying them. I am realizing life may be half over if I’m lucky and I want to enjoy it.

Our health is the most important thing we have. I have never been more focused on my health. I used to do things like exercise or eat well for aeshetic reasons only — I wanted to look good in my clothes or a swimsuit. This year, I really started to appreciate how important it is to take care of our health. We lost some dear friends this year, way before their time. I can’t imagine leaving my babies and husband or this wild life behind. I want to be there to run after my grandkids and I want to instill healthy habits in my family that will serve them in life too. This year, I’m committed to learning to cook healthy meals, I’m exploring supplements and peptides, working on getting more sleep and steps, and spending more time outdoors and less time stressing.

Experiences are the biggest gift. I have always loved to travel and go on fun adventures with the kids But I am really appreciating how valuable these memories are as the kids get older and we have less time together. These are the things that really bond our family and that we will all look back on fondly. I started to wonder if traveling was too much with our young kids after some exhausting trips, but I was reminded how special these experiences always are and when I look back on my past year, it’s those trips and adventures that I have the best memories from. I want to prioritize more this year.

A simplified wardrobe and routine makes life chicer and easier. I love fashion. I love experimenting with different styles. My style also changes from year to year and season to season. But as I’m getting older and entering such a busy season of life, I’m noticing, I just want to keep it all simple. Easy outfits. Uniforms that always look chic. Less options in my closet. And same goes for my beauty and skincare routine.

Your value is not what you achieve. I have always hung my value on my achievements — career, academics, even in parenthood. I never felt like I was worthy or valuable just for being me. I’ve spent so much of my life trying to achieve the next thing, secretly worried I was nothing without it. But recently, I’ve started to separate my worth from my achievements. I wish I had internalized this sooner and it’s definitely a work in progress, but I think the more we see ourselves as valuable just because we are who we are and here on this planet, the more we can enjoy and use our talents and gifts, the more we can enjoy our work and lives. I don’t know. Does that make sense?

I’m being dramatic. It’ll get done. My energy will return. I’ve probably got the Vid. But it has made me think how as moms we just get so little time off for what is essentially a marathon — 18+ years of child-rearing. And as I’ve been talking with my mom friends about — how impossible it is these days to do everything that is expected of us as moms and to work in any capacity and to be a friend, a wife, a daughter, etc. It’s SO much. It’s unrelenting. And it’s just so overwhelming. But we just keep going because we’re moms, and there’s not really any other choice. It’s crazy. In any event, I don’t know why I got on this tangent, but I think it’s all to say, if you’re feeling overwhelmed and exhausted and frankly, burnt out, you’re not alone. There really should be a week or a couple weeks between seasons to just relax — no tryouts for the next season, no new season sports, no next season to sign up for. Just a week where you can take a breather, the kids can free play, you don’t have to rush to get anywhere and everyone can just breathe easier.

While I figure out how to make that happen, here’s what caught my eye this week.

White Jeans: I live in white jeans in spring. It’s still chilly here well into May, so it’s an easy swap for my regular denim to make any outfit feel more spring-y. And I really find there’s nothing chicer than a sweater, white jeans and flats or sandals. It can be hard to find a flattering pair of white jeans sometimes. Luckily, there are so many styles these days. My advice is to pick the denim style you feel your best in. I’m giving you several options here, because there’s no one size fits all for white denim — it’s more about picking the style that you find most flattering and fits best with your lifestyle versus a specific trend.

If you love a straight leg style, I love these and these.

A cropped kick flare is a great option to wear with spring shoes and easily dresses up and down but can also be worn with boots until it gets warmer.

These have a slightly wider leg and more universally flattering.

If you want to add a more fashion-forward vibe to your spring denim, a barrel style is great and I love these ones — a very slight barrel so feel more in line with my more classic style, lifestyle and age.

Last but not least, I love this more boyfriend style of white jeans as well for an option that’s not too tight or too loose and these are the white jeans version of everyone’s favorite boyfriend meets wide leg jean. This is the style you guys love in regular denim that I wear.

Spring Sweaters: Even if you live somewhere warmer, the temps tend to be chilly in the mornings and evenings, so sweaters are still a staple in the spring. For spring, I like to have a striped sweater (like this one or this one), a cardigan to wear over dresses, tees and blouses when its chilly (this one and this one are my picks), and a lightweight pullover you can layer (I love this one, this one and this one). You can pick sweaters in spring-y hues or stick to neutrals depending on your style and what matches best with the rest of your wardrobe.

Striped Tees: Jeans, striped tees and sneakers, flats or sandals is basically my springtime mom uniform. They look a little more styled than a plain white tee (and hide stains from the kiddos better), but are equally as versatile. This is my fave long sleeve style and I also love this one and this one.

Ballet Flats: I live in ballet flats in the springtime. They’re a bit more polished than sneakers, easy to slip on and no pedicure is required. It’s also too cold for sandals here until the end of spring, so they’re the perfect compromise. I love a good Chanel ballet flat and they are certainly worth the investment, but I also love these, these ones and these ones.

Cute Sneakers: As a mom of four little kids, sneakers are still a staple of my wardrobe. I am constantly chasing after my kids and hanging out on sports fields and playgrounds and I need comfortable shoes for it all. And springtime tends to be muddy at times, so a low-profile sneaker is my go-to when I don’t want to ruin my ballet flats or need to be on my feet all day. I love these ones, and these ones for spring — versatile and comfortable but stylish too.

Lightweight Jacket: We’re still wearing jackets well into spring, so I like to have a couple good spring jackets on hand. I usually rely on a more casual quilted jacket, barn jacket or Barbour coat for day to day mom life and then if you find yourself dressing up and going out a lot, I love a nicer coat that you can wear with pants while its still chilly - I love this one and this one and this one.

Rain Coat: It rains a lot during the spring in Connecticut and even if you live somewhere drier, a functional but aesthetically pleasing rain coat is such an important piece to have in your wardrobe. I love a sportier style that you can wear while watching your kids on the sports fields and with jeans for pickup/drop off/running around. If you are working in the city or want a nicer rain coat to dress up your outfit, I would do a trench coat like this or this hybrid coat I have that I love because looks as polished as a trench but has a hood.

Button Up Shirt: A classic button-up shirt is a mainstay year-round, but I find I wear them the most in the springtime. I’ll throw them on with jeans and instantly have a polished outfit; I’ll wear them with spring skirts and pants, and even shorts. I love this white button-up and this french blue option.

Printed Pants: If you live somewhere chillier, pants can be a staple long into spring. But I find myself wanting to wear something other than jeans. Printed pants are a fun way to nod to the season and easy to layer up with sweaters and later tees and tanks. They’re a great option if you’re headed to a country club that doesn’t allow jeans. I love these for something a bit dressier than denim but that can also be styled casual enough for everyday mom life. This pair is also fun for something dressier to wear to daytime spring events or dinners.

Ankle-Grazing Jeans: When it comes to springtime denim, I prefer ankle-grazing styles (note: I am saying ankle-grazing rather than cropped, as it tends to be more flattering rather than pairs that cut off above your ankle and thereby, shorten your legs). I love a medium wash but lighter washes work great too. These are my favorite styles for spring:

This is a great more casual option for everyday that I probably wear the most out of any pair in my closet.

And if you want to mix it up with something fun for spring, I love these and these.

Mules: I am at the stage in my life where I no longer will be wearing uncomfortable shoes even for events and to go out. A pair of slip on sandals with a medium heel, or I guess we’re calling them mules now, are the perfect answer for when I need to dress up these days. I love that these work day to night and with dresses and jeans — I wore them all over Charleston. But I also love these.

Day to Night Tops: For spring the answer to what to wear to anything that requires getting dressed (but not dressed up per se) is jeans and a blouse. I love to have a few blouses at my disposal to wear with jeans (and later shorts) in the spring. They make the outfit, you just add flats or sandals and you’re good to go. They can work for daytime and date night, and you’ll wear for years. I love this top and this one, this one and this one.

Full Skirt: I find a pretty full skirt has become a springtime essential for me. I pair it with a tee or lightweight sweater and flats or even sneakers and I’m good to go. It’s my polished mom outfit when I want to look a bit nicer than jeans but not as dressy as a dress and heels. Skirts are also great for layering, so they work particularly well for early spring. I love this one and this one.

Printed Dresses: You didn’t think this list would be complete without some spring dresses. I tend to gravitate towards florals in the springtime (groundbreaking, I know) but you can go for any type of print that fits your style and fancy. I prefer prints to solids mostly because I have little kids and they hid stains better, but it also feels a bit more spring-y to me. I am always on the hunt for spring dresses that will work daytime to night, and this year, I’m loving this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one. If it’s still chilly by you, wear with boots now and flats or sandals later, throw a sweater or jacket over and layer it up until you can wear on its own.

We stayed at The Loutrel, which is a great location to restaurants and shopping, but also a nice refuge from the city. We loved the vibe and had breakfast (it’s complimentary and actually delicious) and cocktails there each night (they have a 4-5pm Happy Hour that we loved too). We ate at Husk, 167 Raw Oyster Bar, Leon’s, Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, and Post House Inn and would recommend them all. We also spent time shopping and antiquing on King Street. It was chilly but next time, we hope to get in some beach time and a little more exploring.

Okay, first up, some life updates.

It’s really cold. Nothing profound here, but there aren’t enough layers, as you can probably see my IG outfit posts.

Last Minute Trips. We aren’t great at planning trips in advance. Andrew travels like crazy for work so it’s hard to plan anything in advance. Like clockwork, something for his work always comes up right before a trip we’ve planned. And then there’s the fact that I have commitment issues and I get riled with indecision over where to go. Anyone else experience this? And why do the stakes feel so high? Yes, it’s not cheap to travel especially as a family of six, but also, we’re kind of just happy anywhere with a pool and good food at this stage in parenthood. But anyway, my point in all this is we had nothing planned for our kids’ winter break coming up. We had planned to go to Charleston and Kiawah, but a work trip for Andrew came up and then the weather is going to be a bit cold for the beach. I was really bummed and it’s been so cold, I was spiraling at the idea of not getting away, but also feeling so exhausted that traveling felt like a lot. BUT at the eleventh hour, we’ve made it work. We’re going to spend a few days in Charleston, just Andrew and I while my in-laws and our old nanny watch the kids, and then we’re going to head to a really special experience for the kids for a few days.

A really cool family experience. Okay, so the family experience. We’re going to drive up to Ocean’s Edge Resort in Cape Cod for their special Harry Potter experience and I can’t wait. We’re going to surprise the kids and they’ll be so excited. It’s a whole weekend of activities and just a great fit for us right now. As much as I’d love to go skiing, it’s so much work to get everyone there and Brooks and Grace are too young for ski school or to ski with the family so without a sitter, it becomes hard. So this felt like a great long weekend activity that’ll get us out of dodge and allow for some fun bonding that I don’t have to plan.

Speaking of the Cape and Vacations... We really fell in love with the Cape when we were there this fall. Now is the time to book for summer (I know, it’s insane), and the rental company we booked a house through gave me a discount code if you’re interested - use KRISTIN5. They’re the company to go through if you want to rent a house in the Cape. Can’t recommend enough. If you’re interested in Nantucket for the summer, we loved staying at The Nantucket and I also have a code for them — KENN10 — and it works at their other properties on Martha’s Vineyard and St. John’s.

Home Updates. I’ve been in a major nesting phase. We were offered the chance to have our house photographed and it really lit a fire under me to finish up the spaces that I had been sitting on. We painted our family room after agonizing over the color and whether to paint or wallpaper it for over two years. I was a little nervous about the color, but it turned out so good. It’s a subtle change but packs a big punch and makes our navy sofa work (which maybe isn’t the color I’d choose if I were doing it again but has worked really well with little kids). The curtains I had made for our living room are supposed to arrive next week, and our dining room curtains should be ready in late March. In the meantime, I had two accent chairs from our dining room reupholstered and I love them so much, I’m going to have them do the rest of the chairs. I just need to decide on a fabric. Next up is our guest room window treatments and wallpapering James’ room. Oh, and I’m also having a window treatment made for the kitchen to tie in some color. Just have to commit to the fabric (again, I’m spending way too long agonizing).

I love the design process, but I also should be focusing on some bigger projects we need to do — renovating a bathroom, landscaping and fencing, and potentially an add-on. But you know, I’m also ready to move already (lol, I am who I am), and the smaller things feel far more manageable and easier to wrap my head around, not to mention more fun.

A Note on Balancing Work and Kids. I am by no means an expert in this department and believe we’re all just trying to do our best and that in itself is enough. But I wanted to share a way I deal with the mom guilt and balancing the two that I learned during my corporate days as a magazine exec and have carried through as I build my own business while raising my four littles. You really have to accept that there’s no exact balance or formula. Every day feels like a constant switch back and forth and you can’t be it all, at least not at the stage of life I’m in. But one thing that’s helped me is reminding myself that some weeks are heavier on the work, and some weeks are lighter on work and heavier at home. So rather than measuring by one day or one week, I try to look at the big picture of how I’m balancing work and family. For example, next week, I’m not going to be home as much as I have a lot of Fashion Week events in the city that require me to be dressed and ready, to commute into the city, etc. I will miss some pickups and practices and dinners and bedtimes. And there’s an army of childcare making it all possible. Instead of feeling guilty over it, I just try to aim to balance it out. This weekend we didn’t go out — I focused on the kids and last week, I was there for everything and didn’t get as much work done. So I know I filled their cups (and mine!) and that this week, I’ll be a bit less present, but big picture, it all balances out. I also am strategic about what I’m attending and doing work-wise these days and only say yes to things that really fill my cup personally and professionally. Sometimes it means saying no to things I’d like to do or even things that might be good for me or fun for my family, but I am only one person, and can only do so much. There will be seasons with more time to focus on work and where the balance will be easier, and for now, accepting it’s a bit messy and not everything will get done as just a reality has helped.

I’m generally wary of all the skincare devices we are being peddled right now. I’d rather save up for Botox, lasers and the lot, but this is one that I’ve had for years and have loved the results. My skin looks so much glowier and healthier after I use and this is one where I use the tool over the professional treatment.

I have been living in these boots. It’s been snowy and cold and they look put-together with jeans and a sweater but are as cozy and warm as Uggs.

I ordered these shoes to wear with vacation and spring outfits. This color is hard to find but goes with so much and this style is comfortable while adding height.

This jacket also arrived and I couldn’t wait to break it out. I layered it over a cashmere turtleneck and jeans for now and will wear with white jeans and tees in the spring.

If you’re a content creator and need a good tripod, I’m loving this one. Easy to fold up and carry around or bring with you places.

Also, you need these $7 hair clips. They look more chic than a rubber band, hold your hair, and you can sit back in your chair comfortably.

All this to say, I almost didn’t share my January outfits. I was questioning if they were cute enough etc. etc. and there were plenty of days that I didn’t get dressed. But I think that’s the point here — to show you how I’m dressing for real mom life as a mom of four. I’m no longer an editor with a full time nanny living in the city with a glamorous job to dress up for and far fewer kids. I live in the suburbs (really the country imo), I have four little kids I’m raising, a house without a super to handle all the annoying things (although I’m trying to force Andrew into that role), and a business I’m growing. I’m still adjusting to dressing for a different kind of life and setting and life as a mom of four and frankly, I’m still in the weeds of parenting. So here are some very real and practical outfits I wore during the coldest, darkest month of the year.

And just to end on a high note because, despite my sarcasm, I do like to keep it positive: We made it through January! Spring is on the horizon. Valentine’s Day is coming soon and then February break. The sun is staying up longer. Life is about to get good again, and the cold will eventually thaw. But since we’re going to be bundling up again for the near future, I hope this post gives you some winter outfits to inspire you if you are also sick of getting dressed and figuring out what to wear for the frigid temps.

This week, we’re having our family room painted and I can’t wait to show you. I really think it’ll be the final step in pulling the room together. It’s truly the heart of our home, and I am hoping we love the final look. The color is a departure from our usual and I feel a bit nervous, but I think it’s gonna be good. I am eagerly awaiting window treatments for our living and dining rooms that are being made, and then I will share those rooms as well. So all this to say, stay tuned for more home content!

If you love designer bags (but not the price tag)… I was gifted a trial to Vivrelle and I finally signed up and gave it a try, and I’m kicking myself for not trying sooner. If you’re trying to get your work space organized, I found the cutest things. I am on the search for a new desk for our guest room so I can use it as an office. I have a place holder there now that I don’t love, so I’ve dressed it up with some cute accessories. How cute is this desk organizer?

I always get asked how we deal with the toy clutter with four little kids. First, I ruthlessly toss/donate broken, annoying or unused toys. Second, I try to keep the playroom as the hub for all toys And yet, we still have toys all over the place. What I find helps the most is attractive storage. We have these baskets all over our house to throw toys in. It really does help and when they get bigger, we can use for throw blankets or towels etc.

A Valentine’s gift idea for YOU. Nine years ago, I received my first pair of Lake Pajamas for Valentine’s Day (after sending Andrew a link to the pjs and robe I wanted lol) and I have not stopped collecting their PJs since. I don’t know the science behind it (and nine years ago, I thought it was hooey) but wearing nice pajamas really does make you feel better. Anyway, I highly recommend sending your husband this robe if he’s struggling with what to get you - it was finally restocked and it is so soft, you will never want to take it off. I love this new PJ print too. And if the kids need V-day pjs, how cute are these?

A new to me brand that makes the most beautiful cashmere. I was recently introduced to this new to me brand, Ravella, and their cashmere sweaters and sets are so incredibly beautiful. Their cashmere is an investment, though on par with other luxury cashmere brands. These pants are so incredibly soft and you feel like you’re wearing sweats but they look so much more put-together. I wore to lunch with the matching sweater that has these beautiful pearl buttons. I also love this gorgeous cardigan.

PSA: One of my favorite comfortable footwear brands makes kids shoes — and they’re so cute. I got these for Charlotte and Brooks is so in love with these sneakers, he hasn’t taken them off. They’re comfortable and soft but supportive.

Rent a House on Deer Valley Mountain (I prefer skiing Deer Valley and they have tons of great rentals you can book that are great for families; only downside is that the hotel/condo rentals offer more full service, from rides to ski valet that you don’t necessarily get with a house)

First, some tips for how to pack everything for a ski vacation:

Stuff ski gear like snow pants, ski jackets, and gloves etc in with the skies. We keep a set of our skies and snow gear out in Park City, but bring the kids stuff and I’ll often stick an extra ski outfit in with their skies too (because I am who I am).

If you’re checking car seats, stick boots and coats in with them. This is such a great hack to take advantage of if you’re lugging car seats. We have one of those backpack carseat carriers, and we’ll stick in a booster seat or two in there for the bigs and then usually a couple pairs of boots and any extra ski jackets/pants. Pack boots at the bottom of your suitcase, then layer sweaters and jeans over and then I pack the coats on top.

Wear your heaviest coat and boots on the plane. It’s hot and totally stinks to have that bulk, but for a ski trip, I find it necessary.

Pack just 2-3 pairs of pants you can wear a bunch of ways - 1 pair black leggings, 1 pair jeans, and I always do one pair of white/ecru jeans because I think they look so chic but those are optional. You can substitute a pair of black leather pants (I like the leggings style for skiing so you can tuck into boots) if you’d prefer and/or want something dressier. The vibe at mountain towns is casual, so you really can wear jeans and leggings everywhere.

Lay sweaters flat at bottom of suitcase over boots and jeans.

Pack tops you can mix and match. I always do one long sleeve tee, 1-2 short sleeve tees (mostly to wear under sweaters), 1 button up (I usually do denim to fit the mountain vibe) and then 3-4 sweaters (I usually do something like: 1 fair isle or ski sweater type deal, 1 turtleneck sweater with butt coverage (to go with leggings or jeans), 1 cable knit crew, and then 1-2 others I love that can work for lunches and dinners depending on how long we go).
